ten years

we have lots going on right now with the end of school coming up in a couple of weeks but i know that i need to document our 10th anniversary!!! i just don't really know what i want to say about it as i have been surprised by my emotions at this anniversary.

we didn't do much to celebrate as there was a lot going on both physically and financially but we did manage to go out to dinner and have a moment amidst the chaos.  lame, i know but hopefully we will do something more special to celebrate when things calm down a bit....we have a whole year, right?

as i mentioned, i was surprised at how emotional i felt that day.  maybe it was hormones but each time i thought about it, i felt this lump in my throat.  i'm not sure where it came from.  it has been an amazing adventure with my best friend in the world.  we have grown up in these ten years.  we have become adults and parents.  we have a few grey hairs from some ruthless trials.  we have expanded our family by four amazing children and we have established a home.

marriage is the most amazing and wonderful thing.  it is also hard.  i would be lying if i said that their haven't been times if i wondered if we would make it.  but i think the emotions that i have felt have been this sense of pride.  i am proud of what we have done.  i am proud that we have made it through four terrible and difficult pregnancies, school with two babies, financial hardship, job loss, a bad economy and other harrowing very personal trials.  we are doing it.  it is not over and we haven't "made it" but hitting a landmark like this has made me realized we are doing it.

obviously, i believe in god.  he is very real to me and a very real part of my life and my family.  his direction has guided us as we have sought it every step of the way.  i also believe that satan is very real.  i feel strongly that since the day we were sealed in the temple, it has been his goal (and always will be) to destroy our eternal family.  i am grateful for what i have learned.  i am grateful that i know that i have power over satan.  i know that the choices we make determine how much influence he can have in our family and we work hard to not allow him here as much as we can.  i know that he cannot be where the spirit resides and that has become my personal goal....to watch over and protect my family....my husband and children and our home by inviting the spirit every day and asking for the help of angels to watch over and protect us.  when they are present, i know that we are safe.

on a lighter subject, eric and i took some time to reminisce about these years.  we never could have imagined where we have been.  we also talked about what the next ten might hold and dug up our dreams and are trying to put them back in their place.  dreaming is a wonderful thing.  it gives us hope.  we are growing everyday.  we are transitioning in our lives right now and are definitely unsure what the future may hold for our little family but we trust that we will be guided by a loving heavenly father to the path the he has prepared for us.  i also am confident that he knows our desires and our dreams for our family and does not ignore those as he paves our way.  here's to the next ten!!!
