today

today was a good day. not perfect by any stretch but good. i had eric home and to myself most of the day today which was wonderful. we spent way too much money. we always do when we are together. i got a wonderful new billabong hoodie and eric asked when i am going to grow out of "hoods". it's true i am slightly obsessed. hoodies are like comfort food to me. we also had fun at tjmaxx -- me trying on all kinds of high heels and eric killing himself laughing. i'm not good at walking in high heels. i am footwear challenged. eric got himself a couple of pairs of jeans....he's shrunk out of all of his....he's super trim nowdays....and a nice shirt...which will make me look a little under-dressed in my hoodie.

then we came home. i taught a few piano lessons while eric ran out to get air filters and a shower rod for the kid's bathroom both of which he promptly installed. i got the meat defrosting for dinner and ran over to mom and dad's to drop something off. i stayed longer than expected...just got talking you know. then i came home to eric and the kids playing and watering our lovely garden. i went inside and threw together a humungous pot of spaghetti bolognese. eric and the kids came inside after a while, picked up a little and cleared off the table and set it nicely for dinner. we ate around the table as the kids chatted away about their day....stories about runaway balls that they watched rolling down the street and having the special job of carrying the lunch basket at school and caleb making his alligator puppet which was easy for him but would clearly be too hard for any of us. dinner was delicious and i will freeze the rest to make another 3-4 meals.

i came upstairs and put my exhausted baby to bed. he only tried to get out once briefly (this is huge because we have been struggling over bedtime to keep him in the last few weeks) but then he went back and drifted into sweet slumbers. now, as i type this, i can hear maryn, caleb and their dad finishing reading together and getting ready to head to bed too.
